Are you moving into a new home or moving out? Resetting your Ring doorbell is a good idea if you want to delete your data before leaving or remove the information of the previous tenant.
If you’re selling or giving away your doorbell, you can reset it first. In this article, we’ll tell you how to reset your Ring doorbell.
How Can You Reset Your Ring Doorbell?
Currently, there are over ten models of the Ring doorbell. Some of them are wired and others are battery-operated.
Most of these versions can be hard reset in similar ways. The whole process won’t take more than two minutes to complete.
1. Make Sure There’s Power
Hard resetting your Ring doorbell will only work if the device is connected to a source of power. If your model is battery-operated, the batteries should be charged.
You can check if the doorbell has power in it if the main button is illuminated. You can also know this from your phone app.
2. Remove The Cover
You’ll need a T15 torx bit if you don’t have the screwdriver that came with the doorbell. Remove the screw on the bottom of the doorbell to take out the cover.
3. Locate The Reset Button
You’ll see the ring-shaped doorbell button in the middle and a smaller black button with a red or orange dot in the upper right corner.
For some models, this small button will be on the right side of the device rather than the front.
4. Press for 15 Seconds
Hold the reset button for 15 seconds or until the doorbell starts flashing. Release the button when the blinking begins.
After a few seconds, the flashing will stop and a solid light will appear. Then, you’ll hear an automated voice indicating that the doorbell is in setup mode.
If your Ring doorbell doesn’t talk, you’ll hear a chime instead. At this time, the flashing would’ve stopped and a spinning white light would show.
This means the doorbell has been successfully factory reset and is now in setup mode.
5. Replace the Doorbell Cover
You can now return the doorbell cover the same way you removed it. Put the screws back into place with the T15 bit.
6. Setup Through the App
Once you’ve deleted all the information from the Ring doorbell, you can start setting up your account.
Make sure you have the Ring doorbell app installed on your phone to complete the setup process.
Wrapping Up
You may need to reset your Ring doorbell if you’re trying to fix an issue or link up a new account.
In this article, we described how to reset your Ring doorbell. This process can take a minute or two to complete once you’re familiar with the task.
First, you should remove the doorbell cover by taking out the screws holding it in place. Then, press the reset button for 15 seconds or until the bell button flashes.
You’ll either hear a chime or an automated voice saying “Now in setup mode.” This means you’ve completed resetting your doorbell.
